LEED v5 metering and monitoring credits, backed by live data
LEED is the US Green Building Council's voluntary green building rating, certified through GBCI. In LEED v5, energy and water metering are prerequisites with five years of reporting, and several credits score continuous monitoring. Aqueduct supplies the meters' data and the indoor air record.

Who it applies to
Owners who choose to certify, at Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum. LEED v5 has rating systems for new construction and core and shell (BD+C), interiors (ID+C) and existing buildings (O+M), each worth up to 110 points.
v5 launched in 2025 and moves more weight onto measured performance. For BD+C projects registered from 1 January 2028, the energy prerequisites reference ASHRAE 90.1-2022.
Prerequisites and credits that need measured data
Codes and points from the LEED v5 BD+C and O+M rating systems, July 2026. Your LEED consultant submits and GBCI reviews.
| Requirement | What it asks for | Data Aqueduct supplies |
|---|---|---|
| BD+C EAp4, Energy Metering and Reporting (required) | Energy monitored per ASHRAE 90.1, with 12 months of energy by source and peak demand reported to USGBC each year for five years. | Interval data per source and end use, with yearly exports. |
| BD+C WEp1, Water Metering and Reporting (required) | Permanent whole-project meters for potable and alternative water, shared yearly for five years. | Main water meters read continuously. |
| BD+C WEc1, Water Metering and Leak Detection (1 point) | Submeters on at least 80 percent of indoor fixtures and major uses, recorded at least hourly; or leak detection sensors. | Water sub-meters and leak alerts by zone. |
| BD+C EAc5, Enhanced Commissioning | Option 2: at least three years of monitoring-based commissioning on an energy information system. | Metered data and fault detection on the systems being commissioned. |
| O+M EAp2, Energy Monitoring and Reporting (required) | Permanent meters for each energy source and monthly data for the 12-month period. | Monthly totals per source from metered data. |
| O+M EQc1, Indoor Air Quality Performance (up to 10 points) | At least 3 months of continuous monitoring, hourly or faster (15 minutes for CO2), scored on CO2, PM2.5 and TVOC. | CO2, PM2.5 and TVOC per zone at 15 minute intervals or finer. |
Thresholds that score
CO2 at the 95th percentile that earns the full 4 CO2 points in O+M EQc1; PM2.5 earns up to 4 points at 12 µg/m3.

Common questions
For BD+C, the metering prerequisites require energy and water data to be shared with USGBC every year for five years. The meters have to keep working and someone has to export the data, which Aqueduct produces as a yearly export per source.
Not as a separate credit in v5 BD+C. Metering sits in prerequisite EAp4, and monitoring-based commissioning in EAc5 builds on the same data over at least three years. Aqueduct can supply that monitoring, with fault detection on the commissioned systems.
aQ AirSafe measures the CO2, PM2.5 and TVOC that EQc1 scores, at the intervals the credit asks for. Your LEED consultant confirms that the sensor specification and placement meet the credit before the monitoring period starts. See IAQ monitoring.
Yes, as an alternative route in WEc1 for BD+C, worth one point, alongside hourly submetering of indoor fixtures and major uses. Aqueduct can supply either route, from hourly readings per sub-meter to flow alarms located to an area. See leak detection.
