What is ISO 41001?
ISO 41001 is the international standard that specifies requirements for a facility management system, so an organization can show it delivers FM effectively for the people and business it supports.
Who adopts it
ISO describes its requirements as non-sector specific and applicable to all organizations. FM service providers use certification to win and govern outsourced contracts, and in-house estates teams use it to structure service delivery.
Edition and status
The current text is ISO 41001:2018, published in April 2018 by ISO technical committee 267. Amendment 1 of 2024 added climate action changes. ISO marks the standard as under revision, with ISO/DIS 41001 expected to replace it within months, so certificate holders should plan for a transition.
Operational records that support an FM audit
Clause evidence on monitoring and measurement is easier with logged data. The Aqueduct Health tab records connection rate and battery or capacitor voltage for every sensor. Setpoint attainment and comfort compliance score how well HVAC service is delivered, and command history logs each action taken where control is enabled, with owner approval. Certification stays with the accredited body.
