Honeywell BMS alternatives, from EBI and Forge to Trend sites
Honeywell sells several building management products: Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI), which it says is enabled by the Honeywell Forge platform, Forge Performance+ applications, and the Trend controls line. Buyers looking at Honeywell BMS alternatives are often planning for a product change or want water, energy and air measured together. Aqueduct can work across a Honeywell system or replace parts of it.

The Honeywell products behind the term
Honeywell calls EBI an agnostic solution to total integration. Its UK page lists building and energy management, health and safety, security and access control, and video surveillance, plus standards including BACnet, OPC, LonWorks and Enterprise Web Services, and an interactive site map for campuses.
Forge Performance+ for Buildings, Predictive Maintenance, adds real-time predictive analytics, equipment models, zone comfort tracking for temperature, humidity and CO2, and remote setpoint changes to close service cases. In the Trend line, Honeywell describes IQVISION Supervisor as built on Niagara 4. Owners planning the next step usually start by asking which supervisor version is supported, and for how long.
What Honeywell owners weigh before a change
Product roadmap
What is the supported upgrade path for the supervisor or server version you run, and how long does support last?
Several tools or one model
Are energy, comfort, maintenance and water each in their own application, or read from a shared site model?
Open engineering files
Who holds the station databases and graphics, and can another integrator work on them?
Measured outcomes
Does each reported result come from a meter against a normalized baseline, or from a modeled estimate?
Five Honeywell BMS alternatives, plus Aqueduct
We describe each product only as its maker does on a public page, linked below. Capabilities a page does not mention are not inferred.
| System | How its vendor describes it | Often shortlisted when | What to ask |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honeywell Forge Performance+ for Buildings | Predictive maintenance with near real-time analytics, equipment models and dashboards, described by Honeywell as a foundation for maintenance service contracts. | You stay with Honeywell and add analytics to an existing service agreement. | Which sites and assets the contract covers, and who acts on each case. |
| Siemens Desigo CC | An integration platform Siemens positions for mid to large, complex buildings, connecting HVAC, lighting, fire safety and security, with data exchange to Building X. | A multi-discipline building wants a different integration platform. | Which Honeywell field devices Desigo CC can read, and which must be replaced. |
| Johnson Controls Metasys | Release 15.0 adds an energy suite for emissions tracking, benchmarking and budgeting, and scales to 1,000 IP devices per server, according to Johnson Controls. | A large campus is consolidating automation under one supplier. | How the move is phased across buildings that stay live. |
| Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Building Operation | Schneider lists BACnet, Modbus, LonWorks and MQTT support for EBO, which it frames as monitoring, management and control from a mobile-enabled control center. | Engineers want MQTT output and LonWorks support in one product. | What rework the existing Honeywell graphics and alarms need. |
| Tridium Niagara Framework | Tridium describes an open-protocol software platform for connected products, applied to buildings, data centers, manufacturing and cities. | Trend or other Niagara-based sites want to keep a familiar engineering environment. | Which Niagara version each site runs, and the upgrade path for its stations. |
| Aqueduct | Awareness first, then optimization and control: digital twins per block, rate-aware weather-normalized baselines, occupancy-driven automations and an auditable command history. | You want water, energy and air across a Honeywell estate, or to modernize a Trend or EBI estate in steps. | Physical controllers and wiring come from partners, since Milvian AI does not make controls hardware. |
Keep the Honeywell system, replace it, or build in
Keep Honeywell
Aqueduct reads EBI or Trend points over BACnet or Modbus and adds sub-meters and air sensors over LoRaWAN, leaving existing alarm handling untouched.
Learn moreReplace a supervisor
Where a supervisor is reaching end of support, Aqueduct can take its schedules and automations, with outstations kept until they are due for renewal.
Learn moreBuild in on new sites
New buildings in a Honeywell estate can specify Aqueduct metering and controls access from the outset, so data matches across old and new.
Learn moreLeaving a Honeywell supervisor in steps
Map outstations
Record every controller, its protocol and the plant it serves, noting which can be read directly.
Fill the metering gaps
Partners fit LoRaWAN meters and sensors where the BMS has no water or zone air data.
Hand over schedules
Where control is enabled, with owner approval, Aqueduct sends schedules, with lockouts that block a new command until the last one is acted on.
Retire the old head end
Once every function is confirmed in command history, the supervisor can be switched off.

Common questions
Yes, where the site exposes an open protocol: Honeywell lists BACnet for EBI, and BACnet and Modbus for IQVISION. Sequences stay untouched because the integration only reads points, then sub-meters and zone sensors fill in water and air. Keep your BMS covers what each system owns.
Honeywell is the first place to ask about its supported upgrade path. Owners who want a different direction can move schedules and automations into Aqueduct while Trend outstations keep running, then retire the supervisor once each function is confirmed. The replace path explains the sequence.
No. Honeywell says EBI is enabled by the Forge platform, and Forge Performance+ adds analytics such as predictive maintenance on top of building systems. The BMS itself, EBI or a Trend system, still runs the equipment, so comparisons should treat the two layers separately.
Yes. Aqueduct keeps a live water balance from the main meter, sub-meters and tanks, flags unaccounted flow and leaks, and shows them on the same site model as energy. Many sites add LoRaWAN water meters through partners for this, since water is often not on the BMS.
