Gas meters

Gas sub-metering for boilers, kitchens and tenants

Aqueduct reads pulse, camera and bridged Modbus or M-Bus gas meters and reports in cubic feet, CCF, therms or cubic meters, with hourly flow. Each boiler, kitchen or tenant can carry its own meter.

Measure gas where it burns, and judge heating against the weather it ran in.

Placement

The loads worth their own meter

  • Service entrance

Total consumption and the base for bill validation.

  • Boilers and water heaters

The largest loads, where a fault first shows as excess burn.

  • Kitchens and tenants

Cooking and tenant use separated from space heating.

Decisions

What the readings let a team decide

  • Boiler inspection

A boiler burning more than its degree day baseline is sent for a check.

  • Out of hours burn

Gas use in an empty building is raised as waste.

  • Fair allocation

Each tenant pays for measured use instead of a floor area split.

Questions

Common questions

It can show unexplained consumption, such as burn in an empty building. Aqueduct is not a safety device, so gas detectors and the site safety plan stay in place. See aQ EnergySmart.

Heating load follows outdoor temperature, so Aqueduct compares a cold month against its heating degree days before calling it waste. A boiler burning above that baseline is flagged for inspection. See weather-normalized baselining.

Aqueduct reads pulse output gas meters, camera reads of older dials, and Modbus or M-Bus meters through a bridge. Volume and energy content are both available for each meter. See pulse counters.

Start with boilers and water heaters, the largest loads, then kitchens and tenants. With cooking split out, the boiler meter reflects heating alone, so its degree day comparison in Aqueduct is fair. See utility bill validation.
