Data centers

Data centers where cooling, power and water are one picture.

Halls, chiller yards and electrical rooms, each watched by a different tool. Aqueduct puts power, cooling and water on one measured record, so PUE and WUE trace to meters.

Problems by outcome

What data centers teams are up against.

Water, energy, air and operations carry equal weight. Each one runs the same loop: monitor, measure, identify, act, verify.

01

Water: Cooling towers and humidification

Make-up and blowdown unmetered, so WUE is an estimate

02

Energy: Chillers, CRAHs and the electrical chain

Conservative setpoints and lightly loaded UPS

03

Air: Rack inlets

Hot spots between the few sensors the BMS reads

04

Operations: Cooling plant

How Aqueduct resolves each problem for data centers, and what changes when it does.

The problemHow Aqueduct solves itThe impact
Water

Make-up and blowdown unmetered, so WUE is an estimate

A live water balance across meters and sub-meters localizes the loss, routes the fix and confirms it closed at the meter.

Loss found from the balance, not the bill, and every fix verified.

Energy

Conservative setpoints and lightly loaded UPS

Weather-normalized baselines per building and asset show the waste in money; schedules and setpoints adjust where control is enabled.

Savings stated in money and confirmed at the meter, not estimated.

Air

Hot spots between the few sensors the BMS reads

Air quality per zone, overlaid with occupancy, with ventilation raised when it matters and verified back in range.

Targets held during occupied hours, with the energy cost counted.

Operations

A fouled coil showing first as one warm aisle

Faults diagnosed in plain language and routed into your CMMS with the fix; early signs of failure schedule maintenance first.

Fewer reactive call-outs and closures confirmed by the equipment.

One incident, start to finish

One incident, from first signal to verified fix.

Monitor

Incomers, UPS, PDUs, cooling and tower water read only.

Measure

A baseline per hall against IT load and weather.

Identify

Chilled water delta T falling in Hall 2.

Act

Ticket to critical facilities with trend and cause.

Verify

Delta T restored. Hall partial PUE back on baseline.

Where this is going

Reporting is annual, and load keeps growing.

EU reporting

Sites with 500 kW of IT or more report energy, setpoints, waste heat and water every year after a first report in September 2024.

2
2030

Overhead grows with load

With average PUE flat, cooling and electrical losses rise with every new hall unless they are measured and tuned.

Questions

Common questions

No. Aqueduct starts read only on one hall, taking BMS, EPMS and meter data without writing back. Any later control change goes through your change management process with owner approval, and every command is kept in an auditable history.

WUE is site water use divided by IT energy, as defined in ISO/IEC 30134-9. Aqueduct sums metered cooling tower make-up, humidification and domestic water, divides by metered IT energy and trends the ratio by month, so a change in cooling mode shows up. See WUE.

Measured. Aqueduct calculates PUE from total facility energy and IT energy at the meters, per hall and per interval, following ISO/IEC 30134-2. Where a hall lacks an IT meter, the gap is shown rather than filled with an estimate. See PUE.

Aqueduct supplies the metered energy, water and temperature data that EU Regulation 2024/1364 asks larger sites to report by 15 May. Your team files the report, and Aqueduct keeps the interval history and exports for the reporting year.

Yes. Aqueduct checks CRAH, chiller and pump states against their sequence and flags drift such as rising supply temperature or a pump drawing more power for the same flow. The alert reaches the critical facilities team with the asset and likely cause before inlet temperatures leave range.
