What is ISO 14001?
ISO 14001 is the international standard setting requirements for an environmental management system, the framework an organization uses to control its environmental aspects and improve performance.
Current edition and transition
ISO published ISO 14001:2026, edition 4, in April 2026, and ISO 14001:2015 is now withdrawn. ISO says certified organizations should move to the new version within the timeframe set by their certification cycle, typically around three years, and confirm details with their certification body.
Measured inputs for aspects and objectives
An EMS register lists significant aspects such as water, energy, wastewater and refrigerant. Aqueduct measures several directly: water use per line, STP efficiency and BOD on treated effluent, RO recovery, and electricity and gas by feeder, with alerts when use leaves its expected range. That supports monitoring and measurement evidence, while the audit stays with the certification body.
