ISO 14001

ISO 14001:2026 monitoring with measured energy, water and air

ISO 14001 is the international standard for environmental management systems. Its 2026 edition replaced the 2015 one in April, and certified organizations now have about three years to move over. Aqueduct supplies the measured energy, water and air data behind its monitoring and evaluation clauses.

Demo data
How does this week compare to the last few weeks?
12% below last week, driven by lower HVAC load on weekday afternoons. Two days had low meter coverage.
Demo data

Who it applies to

Organizations of any size and sector. Certification is voluntary and granted by a certification body, which should name the edition, such as ISO 14001:2026. The 2015 edition and its 2024 climate amendment are withdrawn, with the climate content carried into the new edition.

The standard does not set performance targets. In a facility, the aspects it asks about are usually energy, water, discharge and air.

Management system requirements

Where measured data is needed

Requirement areas of the harmonized management system structure. Clause numbers are not given here because the 2026 text is not public. Your certification body audits the system.

RequirementWhat it asks forData Aqueduct supplies
Environmental aspectsAspects identified and the significant ones determined.Energy, water and discharge per site and system, so significance rests on numbers.
Compliance obligationsLegal and other requirements identified and accessible.Limits for each obligation stored against the meters and sensors that test them.
Environmental objectivesMeasurable objectives with plans to achieve them.Progress per objective against a baseline, by month.
Monitoring and measurementWhat is monitored, methods, timing and analysis.Continuous meter and sensor data with calibration dates.
Evaluation of complianceRegular evaluation of whether obligations are met.Readings compared with each limit, with exceptions listed by period.
Nonconformity and corrective actionNonconformities corrected and causes addressed. Each exception linked to its work order and a closing reading.

Questions

Common questions

For now. Certification bodies are moving clients to the 2026 edition within their certification cycle. Ask yours for the date that applies to you; the monitoring data Aqueduct supplies carries over to the new edition unchanged.

Evidence that significant aspects are monitored and that compliance is evaluated, such as discharge volumes against permit limits or energy against objectives. Continuous records answer both without a scramble before the audit.

Yes. Both use the same harmonized structure, and the energy data behind ISO 50001 also serves energy as an environmental aspect. Aqueduct keeps one metered record per site, so both audits draw on the same numbers. See ISO 50001.

Yes, where discharge is metered or sampled. Aqueduct records discharge volume and analyzer or lab results against the permit values and lists every exceedance with its date and response. The organization still evaluates its compliance obligations and signs off.
