Top BMS companies and what each is known for

Six companies and one software framework appear on most BMS shortlists. Each is listed below with its flagship products, described in the company's own words and linked to the source. Milvian AI is not a controls maker: its Aqueduct software reads and controls their equipment over open protocols.

Where Aqueduct fits

The companies above make controllers and the software that programs them. Aqueduct sits at a different layer: it meters water, energy and indoor air, models each system as a live digital twin and baselines it against weather, across every site an owner runs.

It reads equipment from any of these makers over BACnet or Modbus and controls it where control is enabled, with owner approval. That lets an owner keep the controllers that work, replace a front end that has reached end of support, or specify Aqueduct into a new building.

Questions

Common questions

Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Schneider Electric, Carrier through Automated Logic and Acuity through Distech Controls are the most widely known. Tridium, a Honeywell business, supplies the Niagara Framework that many other makers and integrators build on.

Not on its own. Tridium describes Niagara as a software platform for developing and deploying connected products, and other companies build BMS products on it, such as Distech Controls with EC-Net Facilities. An integrator programs a Niagara station for each building.

Milvian AI makes Aqueduct, software that can act as a BMS, but it is not a controls hardware maker. Aqueduct controls equipment through LoRaWAN relays or BACnet and Modbus field controllers, and partners install the devices. See Aqueduct BMS.

Yes, when the devices speak open protocols. Schneider Electric, for example, names BACnet, LonWorks and Modbus support for EcoStruxure Building Operation. Aqueduct reads BACnet and Modbus devices from any maker, so mixed sites and portfolios report on the same baseline.
